Latest Complete Annual Snapshot

The newest complete annual figures available for each indicator. Publication periods may differ by source.

GDP (Nominal)

US$421.97B

2024 · World Bank

Gross domestic product at current prices, converted to US dollars using market exchange rates (yearly average).

World Bank's NY.GDP.MKTP.CD series has not yet posted a 2025 current-US$ figure for Malaysia as of this verification pass — 2024 ($421.97B) is the newest available. Malaysia's Department of Statistics (DOSM) has separately published a full-year 2025 GDP of RM2.03 trillion (current prices, released 15 May 2026), but DOSM did not publish an official USD conversion of that figure, so it is not substituted here rather than risk a self-converted, unofficial dollar amount.

GDP Growth

5.2%

2025 · Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM)

Annual percentage growth rate of real GDP, full calendar year.

5.2% year-on-year for full-year 2025, per DOSM's official release (15 May 2026) — the same pace as 2024, corroborated by Bank Negara Malaysia. This is the actual 2025 outturn, not a forecast.

Foreign Direct Investment

RM65.9B

Full year 2025 · Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM)

Net foreign direct investment recorded in Malaysia's balance of payments — actual capital transactions (equity, reinvested earnings and inter-company financing) net of withdrawals. This is a distinct measure from MIDA's approved-investment figures, which record proposed project value (domestic and foreign combined) rather than capital that has actually entered Malaysia, and the two should not be treated as interchangeable.

RM65.9 billion for full-year 2025 (up 41.2% from RM46.7B in 2024), per DOSM's official release (24 June 2026). Shown in ringgit rather than converted to US dollars, since DOSM did not publish an official USD figure and self-converting at a spot rate would be an estimate, not a sourced number. Not to be confused with DOSM's separately-published cumulative FDI stock/position (RM1,113.8 billion as at end-Q1 2026), which is a balance-sheet total, not an annual flow.

Unit: MYR billion, net FDI inflow

International Arrivals

26.6M

Full year 2025 (Jan–Dec) · Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC)

Total international tourist arrivals (visitors staying one night or more) recorded for the complete January–December calendar year.

26.6 million tourist arrivals for full-year 2025, per MOTAC/Tourism Malaysia data as reported via New Straits Times and Bernama-sourced coverage. MOTAC's own figures are sometimes quoted as a combined 42.2 million "international visitor arrivals," which blends the 26.6M tourist total with a further 15.6M same-day excursionists (short land-border crossings); this card deliberately shows only the 26.6M tourist-arrival figure to avoid conflating the two definitions. tourism.gov.my's statistics page could not be opened directly this pass (returned an access error), so this is marked for a follow-up direct check against a MOTAC press release before the next review.

Traditional Malay culture, rainforest and island diving.

Popular places: Perhentian Islands · Redang Island · Kota Bharu · Kuala Terengganu · Taman Negara · Cameron Highlands
Experience: Island diving and snorkeling · Traditional Malay arts and crafts · Rainforest canopy walks · Highland tea terraces
Taste: Nasi dagang · Nasi kerabu · Keropok lekor · Ulam-ulaman
Best general period: Dry season, approximately March–September (the east coast monsoon runs roughly November–February, when many islands close)

Most east coast islands close to visitors during the November–February monsoon season — check resort operating dates before booking.
